About MP4 to GIF

Why this exists
Turning a few seconds of video into a GIF should be quick. In practice, most online converters upload your whole video to a server, make you wait in a queue, cap the file size or ask you to sign up, and many produce GIFs that are blurry, banded or huge. MP4 to GIF does one job: it converts the part of the video you choose into a sharp GIF with a size you control, and it does it on your own device, for free.
How it works
The converter is FFmpeg, the open-source multimedia framework, compiled to WebAssembly so it runs inside your browser. When you convert, the page reads only the selected part of your video, builds a color palette for that clip and writes the GIF in your browser's memory. Your video is never sent to our server; we could not see it even if we wanted to.
The home page explains the settings, and the guide shows how to do the same in other apps.
Open-source software
MP4 to GIF uses ffmpeg.wasm (the @ffmpeg/core build), which packages FFmpeg and libraries such as x264 for WebAssembly. That build is licensed under the GNU GPL version 2 or later; its source code is available from the ffmpeg.wasm project, and FFmpeg itself from ffmpeg.org. FFmpeg is a trademark of Fabrice Bellard, originator of the FFmpeg project; MP4 to GIF is not affiliated with it.
Who runs it
MP4 to GIF is run by ITERO LTD, a company registered in the United Kingdom. It is free to use, has no accounts and shows no ads.
