Privacy policy

The short version

Your videos and GIFs never leave your device. They are read, converted and saved by code running in your browser, and are never sent to us or to anyone else. We have no accounts, so we hold no profile about you.

Who we are

MP4 to GIF (mp4-to-gif.app) is operated by ITERO LTD, which is the data controller for the little personal data described below. Contact: support@mp4-to-gif.app.

Your videos

When you choose a video, the page gives the converter (FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly, running in a background worker of your browser) read-only access to the file. It reads the part you selected and writes the GIF or MP4 into your browser's memory; the download link points to that memory. No request to our server or to any third party contains your video, its name or its contents, and nothing about it is logged.

The converter program itself is downloaded from our website the first time you convert, like any other part of the page, and your browser caches it. The output file is newly encoded, so it carries no metadata from the original (such as GPS location). When you close or reload the page, everything is gone from memory.

Service providers

These providers process limited data on our behalf to run the website:

• Vercel hosts the website. Like any web host it receives standard request data (IP address, browser type, the page requested) when you load a page.
• Vercel Web Analytics counts page views without cookies and without storing IP addresses.
• Google Analytics measures visits; it never receives your videos. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland it sets analytics cookies only after you allow them. Elsewhere it is on by default and you can turn it off at any time under Cookie settings at the bottom of every page. Events record only the input format, size ranges (such as 10-50 MB), the chosen settings, conversion time and whether a file was downloaded, never file names or contents.

Cookies

The converter uses no cookies. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland we ask before setting analytics cookies, and declining works the same as allowing. Elsewhere analytics cookies are on by default; Cookie settings at the bottom of every page turns them off. A language preference cookie may be set if you change the site language.

Children

The service is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR, the EU GDPR and US state privacy laws you can ask what personal data we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it. Because we never receive your videos and keep no accounts, there is usually nothing to access or delete. For any request, email support@mp4-to-gif.app. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office.
